Awesome Fajita Seasoning

The top shelf in our pantry is getting to the point where it can barely hold all of my spices–especially since I started buying what we use most in bulk at Costco (aka. the land of the cheapest chicken on earth and my favorite place to grocery shop). In an attempt to keep thirty McCormick jars from falling onto my bare toes every time I cook, I’ve started making my own seasoning mixes. One my favorites so far has been fajita seasoning, especially with the popularity of burritos and wraps in our house! Although it can initially be a little expensive to buy each individual spice, I’ve found it’s much cheaper than buying ready-made taco packets from the grocery store–especially with the quantity I go through on a regular basis. And it tastes better, too!

This recipe makes 5 tablespoons, which is about 15 servings.

Ingredients:

  • 4 tsp chili powder
  • 2 tsp cumin
  • 2 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp chipotle chili powder
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • 1 tsp white sugar
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp dried onion flakes
  • 1 tsp cayenne

Directions:

  1. Add to an empty spice jar or small prep bowl (with lid), cover, and shake to combine!

This recipe keeps (pretty much) forever in a cool, dry pantry. When using, be careful not to shake directly over steaming food! The moisture can get into the dry seasoning and cause it to clump, which makes it harder to use. Other than that, enjoy for as long as you like!
