Homemade Cajun Seasoning

When prepping for Alex’s lunches this past weekend, I wasn’t sure how much seasoning I would need, so I thought it would be best to just make a full batch and reserve any leftovers. As it turns out, that was a decent plan for two reasons: one, I used way less than I anticipated; and two, I had to go back and cook a second batch of shrimp because I only had enough for two meals when I finished. Overall, I’d call this spice mix a success, and I’ll definitely be using it again soon.

This recipe makes 3 tbsp seasoning mix, which is about 9 servings.

Ingredients:

  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • ½ tsp rosemary
  • 1 tsp dried onion flakes
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp white pepper
  • 1 tsp thyme
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp salt

Directions:

  1. Add to an empty spice jar or small prep bowl (with lid), cover, and shake to combine!

This recipe keeps (pretty much) forever in a cool, dry pantry. When you are using it, be careful not to shake the spice jar or container directly over steaming food, as the moisture can get into the dry seasoning and cause it to clump. Instead, pour some in your palm or use a measuring spoon to portion out how much you need.
